Sujit Choudhry – international recognition in comparative law

Sujit Choudhry is one of the bright examples of modern legal practices. He is an expert in comparative law and a law counselor. Comparative law is a legal discipline that analyzes in what ways are legal systems from around the world different and similar. The study of comparative law involves legal families such as common law, civil law, the socialist law as well as legal systems of different religions like Jewish and Chinese law for example. Comparative law is among the most preferred legal disciplines by law students all around the world. It was first taught by the British jurist Sir Henry James Sumner Maine who gave classes at the University of Oxford.

Sujit Choudhry studied law at Harvard Law School, check works.bepress.com.   He became a professor in law and taught the subject at many renowned academic institutions among which are the New York University School of Law and University of Toronto Faculty of Law. He also was part of the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Sujit Choudhry has had more than thirty years of experience in the field of comparative law. He was also an advisor to the process of building a constitution for a number of countries such as Ukraine, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Sri Lanka, Jordan, South Africa, Nepal and more. Sujit Choudhry has also strived towards educating students internationally and has given speeches, lectures and has held seminars on the subject of comparative law in over 20 countries on a few continents around the world. His research has a very wide scope. However, it is focused majorly on topics such as the bill of rights, federalism, official language policies, semi-presidentialism, the process of building a constitution for a given country, minority and group rights and more. Sujit Choudhry has further contributed to the study of comparative law through his edited collections books. Some titles of his are Constitutional Design for Divided Societies: Integration or Accommodation? The Oxford Handbook of the Indian Constitution, and The Migration of Constitutional Ideas. His edited collections are often used as a reference and recommended reading for law students all around the world.
